nurse checking for head lice and nits

“NO NIT POLICY”

Head Hunters L.R.S. supports a “No Nit Policy”. This policy states that children cannot be in school if they have nits in their hair. Having a “No Nit Policy” actually reduces the number of cases of head lice. When performing a head check visually, the nits are easier to see. Lice run from light, are quick and evasive. Just because you cannot see bugs visually, does not mean that they are not there. The nits that are in the hair will hatch if not completely removed and will become live bugs. Children could be contagious when only nits are seen and just not know it, or they will become contagious after the nits hatch. A “No Nit Policy” is the long term solution that will decrease the spread of lice and ensure that children are properly treated.
